FFT sync

Post by the_psychologist »

Just a note re: syncing to an audio input. I have been struggling to get decent synchronization in Resolume, to the point where I almost gave up. But it looks like increasing the audio buffer and fine tuning the frequency band will get you a decent result. The only buffer size that works for me is 1024, all the others seem to break the accuracy. YMMV

don't expect on-board to do any good on FFT. if you want a good analysis you will probably need a card with DSP and at least ASIO support. using ASIO4ALL gives good results thus increasing CPU load immensely.

I don't know why people say FFT is so CPU-heavy? It only runs at 12% CPU for me, and I have a mid-level Athlon II x4. The reality is that tap tempo is the best way to sync stuff, but it's not good at getting the "jitter" you get with FFT. Will deffo try with my ASIO sound card and see if it improves.

yes but ASIO also decreases the latency drastically. So no matter what your CPU usage is the latency might still be the problem.
