ableton to resolume mappings are responding wierdly!

Post by apricotandpearjam »

hi.

ive mapped one fader on my midi controller to my 2 filters on my 2 decks/tracks...

ive then mapped it through ableton to the layer video faders. ive also tried it with the composition output but this wont work as i need one layer to remain on.

when i move the filter in ableton the video faders respond fine BUT when i use a controller it doesnt respond the same way. it doesnt fade smoothly, instead it just jumps to points of the fade which visually is terrible and its not consistent and gradual.

any ideas what this could be?

thanks!

ive since found that this is a known problem.

ive also seen a response from the resolume guys saying its not a problem and cant be solved as it doesnt happen with every controller?????????????

I'm sorry if any of our replies have confused you, but we definitely *do* think this is a problem, and we would very, very much like this to work smoothly. Most likely the problem is caused by Ableton's midi forwarding behaving strangely, and not Resolume.

But precisely because it does not happen consistently with every controller, or sometimes even on the same hardware, it is very hard to reproduce it, and therefore very hard to address. This does not mean in any way we think it is less of an issue, it is just the reason there is no solution for this issue at this time.

In order to minimize confusion like this, please search the forum before posting. Should you then have any questions regarding the result you found, please ask the question in the concerning thread. That way we can stick to the facts.

Searching the forum would also have resulted in the following explanation and tip by Bart:
Unfortunately everybody has this problem because Live does not forward the MIDI messages quick enough when it's controlled by MIDI. A workaround is to split the midi from the midi device and send it straight to Live and Avenue.

In fact the very thread I think you are referring to (viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6563&p=26538&hilit ... ive#p26538) outlines the steps to this solution.

!
question : why route your midi signal "thru" Live ??

i just tried with my novation nocturn control surface : first i map the midi knob to Live, then i map the same midi knob in Avenue, this way both applications should recieve smooth midi signals. Can this work for you ?

the only reason i can see to route your midi thru Live would be to be able to "record" midi and then play it back to Avenue "hands free"
