Hi,
so I'm new to Res3 too and still testing. From Res2 I miss some features regarding midi and fx...
1) Is it still possible to assign a midi note to an effect? I haven't found it...
2) In Res2 you could RGB split an effect and/or clips, in Res3 I found it only for clips?
3) Is there a way to start Avenue without audio support?
thanks, baja
MIDI / FX Question
Re: MIDI / FX Question
Hey Baja and welcome to the world of R3.
1) Since R3 has support for an unlimited amount of effects on a clip, layer or composition level, this workflow is no longer supported. You can however apply as many of your favourite effects as you like and assign their bypass buttons to midi.
2) I joined the team after the release of R3, so I'm not that familiar with that technique, and I'm having trouble picturing what RGB splitting an effect would look like. Maybe some screenshots would help a newbie like me
3) You can turn off the audio controls in the view menu. Then next time you start, they'll be out of your face.

Re: MIDI / FX Question
Thanks for reply Joris...
1) the bypass variant I also think of, so if it is the only way it seems to be the best
2) in Res2 I often found it useful to apply an effect only to let's say the red channel ... can someone agree?
3) yes, but what I want to achieve is the Avenue even don't try to load the audio track if there is one in the video clip, could this be possible?
thanks, baja

Re: MIDI / FX Question
Ah, so if understand correctly, Res2 would apply a blur only on the red channel of the image. and composite those blurred pixels onto all the channels of the original image?2) in Res2 I often found it useful to apply an effect only to let's say the red channel ... can someone agree?
I'm afraid that this is not possible at the moment. You can of course remove the audio by deleting it from the clip properties, but there is no way to disable it by default on import. We are working on a stripped version of Resolume that works only with video though.3) yes, but what I want to achieve is the Avenue even don't try to load the audio track if there is one in the video clip, could this be possible?

Okay, thanks for information about upcoming stripped versionI'm afraid that this is not possible at the moment. Re: MIDI / FX Question
Well, in that case I'm afraid I'm going to have you disappoint you again. This feature was removed in R3, since we figured it's too much of a specialized feature, and not many users were using it. As far as I'm aware, you're the first one to mention it being gone.yes, that's what I miss...
You can get a similar result by copying the clip to the empty clip above it, separate the channel and applying the effect on the copy, and then triggering the column. The result is rather cool with the right effects, but it's admittedly quite a bit of a workaround.

Re: MIDI / FX Question
Count me as another person who really, really misses being able to apply an effect only to a selected color channel! It was a great way to make some of the more dramatic FX a little more subtle, and created all kinds of neat artifacting! It's high on the list of features I want to have back, along with a fixed way to bind layers to MIDI controls.
