keyboard mapping doesn´t stick/saving decks?

Post by vjf23 »

hi
am new to the forum.
just getting the bends on vers,3.3.2.
great program.

some newbie queries:
saw, that this problem obviously kept turning up in vers,2,4 on the forum, but
not in 3.3.2 what i can see:

-keyboard mapping doesn´t stick after exiting program.
midi mapping with AKAI MPK mini-midi-keyboard DOES "stick" though.

-how do i assign speed increase/decrease to a keyboard button, like "+", "-" for example,
but not just 0 or 100% ?

-saving decks as in previous versions not possible in 3.3.2 any more?
workaround: dragging decks from other compositions through file manager into empty deck
slot of opened composition the only way?
unpractical in live situation.

running sony vaio, w7, 6g
grateful for help

Hey vjf23
-keyboard mapping doesn´t stick after exiting program.
Depending on which mapping mode you are in, it should stick immediately (application map), or upon saving the composition (composition map). If you are experiencing differently, could you tell us the steps to help us recreate this on our end?
how do i assign speed increase/decrease to a keyboard button, like "+", "-" for example,
but not just 0 or 100% ?
Again it depends on which speed controls you are referring to, but one very handy technique is to map them a keyboard button in mouse mode. That way when you hold down the key, you can nudge the mouse to slightly increase or decrease them. In the default keyboard mapping this is implemented for 's' and 'p' which control the scale and position of the active clip respectively.
-saving decks as in previous versions not possible in 3.3.2 any more?
workaround: dragging decks from other compositions through file manager into empty deck
slot of opened composition the only way?
unpractical in live situation.
This is indeed the way things work in R3. I took some getting used to for me as well, but after a while it's second nature.

I hope that answers your questions.

hi again
thanks for quick reply and sorry for late answer:
tried again, creating a new composition and it worked.
thanks for advice on speed control assignment to specific keyboard buttons.
works allright ( did the arrow up+mouse-combo ), but even when
"edit application key map" in deck-mode it just speed controls in one layer.
sure, one can chose layer after layer and then speed control clips, but i was looking
for a "global control" of all clips in the deck, such as was possible in vers.2.3 for example.
tried assigning via layer mode, but it just lets me assign keys in layer 1.
am i missing out on something?
thanks for your time and patience

Global speed and direction will most likely be introduced in R4. For now though, you can turn on the Layer Transport Controls in the View menu, and then map the speed sliders for each layer to the same control, which should get you the same result.

Hope that helps,

Joris
