Cue points as triggers

Post by Tryll »

I have a number of more theatrical sequences in my show that rely on the same timing each run. While I can run Live, and Max for Live, etc. that seems like a heavy load just to get some precision-timed cues. I'm not using them to produce audio, just to trigger events against a clock.

Since the show is high-resolution, and at times pretty demanding, it would be cool to have something like a... TIMELINE. OMG, did I say that out loud? :o

OK, maybe not a timeline, but how about the ability to have preset cue points that are "outgoing", and trigger a Resolume-wide event, that we could tie to whatever we wanted, much like the other parameter controllers? Pretty much the same UI could be used as we currently have for cue points, but with the ability to set them on a clip which is set to timeline for the sync source.

Each time the cue point is passed, the event is published - maybe with string-based parameters attached (like OSC commands, etc.)

For instance, this might allow column-triggering, or starting an auto-pilot sequence in Resolume 4. Perhaps it could also publish events to OSC, etc. thereby allowing Resolume to become the master show sequencer in shows that involve lighting control, PTZ camera events, etc.

Incidentally, I still haven't decided how best to handle this without Live, etc. (on Mac), so suggestions for a lightweight workaround are appreciated.

I know that that would be enormous step for resolume....and it could be a feature in R6 :-)...

+1, but take a look to http://www.millumin.com/ if you are a mac user, like me, or, of course, our old friend dataton watchout from pc enviroment.

Neat stuff there, but that looks more like another compositing tool (albeit one with a timeline). My issues are more with control automation.

What I'd really love is the older old friend from the same company... TRAX and SmartPax. Before they ditched Mac they made those products, and they were all about control and automation for shows.

It is funny that with all of the digital improvements over the years, some things are actually harder to do now than they were 15 years ago using BetaCam decks and Sony CRVs.
