Just bought resolume 4 avenue,,. I'm a noob in need of help.

Post by Guyon »

Hey guys!! I just bought resolume 4 avenue and I installed it only to find that the thing damn near kills my machine.. lol OK.. to be specific, after having the program open for about 30 seconds the fan on my pc is screaming!! Let me guess,.. this sounds like more of a computer hardware problem than a problem with resolume right? well.. let me list my computer specs. I have a HP Pavillion with AMD II turion dual core mobile m520 2.30 ghz. processor, 4 gb ram.. I do have a few other programs installed on it like photoshop and reason.. but I am a poor college student with little resources. any guidance or suggestions would be appreciated. I just bought this really awesome program that I am too scared to even play with for fear of overheating my only precious computer... Thank you guys so much!!

So... I think that you could be happy that your fan's doing their job

...may you write down wich HP Pavillion model you use?
Do you hear the same fan noise when you are playing a 3D game?
Did you ever played a 3D game or used a 3D software on your laptop? ;) I asked because I don't know if you ever heard your fan. Maybe your Pavillion never heated up in the past.

its a pavillion dv4.. and no I am not a gamer. I have had multiple instances og audio editing software such as reason ableton live open on my computer at the same time and never heard the fan scream like that. And yes, i am thankful that the fan is doing it's job. Really I was wondering if this was normal. The task manager says that my cpu usage is around 40% and ram is hovering around the same rate.. so I thought it was odd that my computer would be getting so hot under so little duress.

Reason & Ableton aren't tools wich are using a lot of GPU power....more CPU.
So..I would say: Everything is all right when Resolume makes some more noise than ableton :)

If you are still afraid of damaging your Notebook with to much heat...try a monitoring tool like
CPUID! http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
With this tool you can check the heatsensors of your machine...so you can have an eye on your heat of the night....

I can't thank you enough for the responses! I am going to download that application you suggested. But to a certain extent it sounds like what you are saying is that what I am experiencing is normal.. Thanks again

And if it is too much then I'll know that I pretty much need a more powerful computer yea? I know that laptops aren't that good at self cooling as it is

I am a HP DV7 notebook user (AMD processor), and with Resolume Avenue, my computer only "survive" about 15-20 min. until a big bad ugly crash that leave computer freeze with ALL lights flashing and dont respont to nothing but unplug it to the wall and remove battery, then let cool down and go running for a aluminium base with two fans. With that, it works hours with Resolume Avenue without problems, but the standard refrigeration of the computer looks to be insufficient for keep it cold on very heavy tasks.
Buy one additional fan, or a aluminium base with a couple of fans, and forget the problem ;)
