Broken AMD support

Post by kmifflin »

As I'm sure many have noticed. It seems that upgrading the AMD driver past 12.4 creates a flickering screen when using the advanced output. Both 12.6 and 12.8 cause this problem with my HD7970. Obviously AMD changed something in their driver which has broken resolume. When can we expect an updated Resolume that address this issue

ive had the same problem. it's pretty annoying huh?
i read in another post that disabling aero on the desktop helps with screen problems.
so yeh i tried that, by right clicking the desktop and choosing personization, then the windows basic theme.
resolume still doesnt seem to like it if fullscreen output is set to the same display as the interface, but worked fine for me outputting to another screen.
ps. i am running win 7 home, resolume 4.1.1, and a 7970m graphics card with the catalyst 12.8 drivers.

hope thats some help untill it gets sorted..

I also own a HD7970 and I believe the last time I disabled Aero my frame rate dropped to 20 fps. I'm pretty sure you have to have Aero enable to have high frame rate. What FPS are you getting with Aero disabled?

This hasn't been addressed yet, because we've haven't been able to recreate it. On our AMD HD6900, we've also had some issues with the post 12.4 updates, but not flickering on the output.

If people experiencing this could list their cards, we can see what model is best to get for troubleshooting this.

ah yeh you are right. i hadnt noticed cause i was playing with my old 800 by 600 resolution clips. so with aero disabled i managed 4 1920 by 1080 clips at 30 fps.
the strange thing is its not a constant effect. some of the time, the setup will cruise along with 5 layers running at 50fps, then at some point when i choose a new clip on a layer to play, it'll grind down to 20 to 30 fps for awhile.

so gfx card model - the standard 7970m that you get in an alienware.

i dont know if this helps at all, but i dont have the same problem with avenue 3.

i did abit more playing around. see if this works for you.
leave aero on.
then type performance into the start menu search.
choose to Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.
You should be in the Performance Options window, and the Visual Effects tab.
choose custom settings, tick everything except Use Visual Styles on Windows and Buttons. i actually had resolume open running an external monitor, as i chose each one and applied. then watched it spaz out when i ticked that last one.

so err...
*bump*
anyone had any more luck with this? cause i swear it wasnt just me an kmiffin having this problem...
so i am thinking, either people found a solution, or they are just sulking and don't want to talk about it...
anyone else wondering whether amd just doesnt care much cause they're too busy making drivers work for windows 8?

I am running an amd card on win 8 and have the same problem. Flickering occures when applying any effects. Also on overlay settings as 50mask.
