über HD pano playback??

Post by CRGxxx »

Hi all

I need to playback a 9600 x 1080 (preferably) or 6400 x 720 (will be fine) film.
The movie will then be sliced into 5 and sent to separate outputs on a mac pro with 2 x graphics cards.

What I would like to know is... Has anybody done this?? what sort of frame rates can I expect??
If playback is too slow and somebody has done better with different config ie pc with modern graphics card would you mind telling me what you use... please let me know your thoughts..

Many thanks

I've done this:

http://villamil.org/?p=621

Projected at 8192 x 768, 30fps. What worked best was to slice it into segments (2 @ 3072x768, 1 @ 2048x768), with each segment on a separate hard drive. This was crucial - having all three segments on the same drive could not get more than 12 fps.

The files were encoded in ProRes 422. Playback was through custom software in Max/MSP that handled sync and mapping.

Hardware was a MacPro with 3 graphics card, and 3x TripleHead2Go units. Two of cards handled a TripleHead in 3 head mode, and one of the cards handled a TripleHead in 2 head mode + the control monitor.

I believe you should be able to do this in Resolume. You may need to segment your file so that it plays off multiple drives, or else get an SSD.

Many thanks for the reply.

Great news that my macs should handle it.
I was getting worried because I cannot get quartz composer to run efficient enough..having to use multi machines and network sync which seems rediculous these days..
Resolume may be the answer.

Best regards

I still havent come to a final conclusion... anyone with any more usefull info??
Are quadro cards worth a go (budget probably wont stretch but if it really sorted things out I could get saving)
What about the firepro with 6 x outputs??

Thanks
