Soundflower and Loopback (from the same developer) both route audio from one application to another. As far as I am aware, iTunes doesn't send SMPTE Timecode. Would be better to use something else, maybe garage band or a DAW.

Also had the output settings in advanced mode, so was getting too ahead of myself

Hmm, just having a thought that BITRATE is one option I haven't experimented with yet. Maybe that is the culprit? By default it was 2500 (i think).
