Mapping out midi is pretty easy in Resolume. I had a look at these units and they look like great little devices but you'll need to buy a Midi to USB interface to connect them to your laptop as they all have Midi out only.

Looks like a winner. I was looking at another unit which is:
Pioneer effect machine - efx 500

but the Soundbite Micro is a lot cheaper and smaller.
