Slices and layers (beginner)

Post by mwarr_ »

Hi everyone,

I'm quite new to Resolume and still learning the basics, but I’m really enjoying the process and experimenting as much as I can.

There’s something I’m a bit stuck on and I hope someone can help clarify it.

At the moment, I have a setup with three different screens configured in Advanced Output, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to control where each layer goes.

Let’s say I have a layer (or group of clips) that I want to show only on two of the screens, and completely exclude from the third one. Within one of the two screens, I might even want to send that content just to a specific slice.

I’ve heard about two different approaches:

- Go into Advanced Output, pick the slice(s), and assign the input to the specific layer I want to display.

- Create separate groups in the composition and use the Slice Transform effect on the group, without touching the Advanced Output input assignments.

Which of these two approaches is the correct or most efficient one? Are there any reasons to choose one over the other in terms of performance, flexibility, or project organization?

Also, one more thing:

How do you usually organize your layers in a multi-screen setup? Do you create one layer per screen area, or is there a smarter way to handle this without making the composition messy?

Thanks a lot in advance to anyone willing to help out. I know these might be beginner questions, but I’m just getting into this amazing software and trying to understand the best practices. :D :D
