flash embedding in clips real size

Post by mfo »

For video projections on areas which do not have 4:3 format, it could be quite useful to build flash clips in i.e. 800x300px size.
The problem is: Resolume starts its internal flash projector always in 4x3 format, i.e. in 800x600px. So the flash renderer does always render 50% more than required, thus slowing Resolume down.

I would really appreciate Resolume starting its internal flashprojector / activX component in the size really required and surround that area with black.
Dunno, if that is only a minor change, but i could look like this:

dunno if i got u right, but couldn't u just put the 800x300 movie clip on a black 800x600 stage to achieve what u r trying to do?

yes, but the flash renderer computes the whole area of 800x600.

This gets especially problematic as you probably never "cut" your clips (inside your flash movie) to the required size. Often this isn't possible. Normally you move, scale, rotate ... your clips so they will take more screen area than just 800x300, although you want/need only 800x300. And that takes Render-Power, and that slows Resolume down ... pfew

ALTERNATIVELY:

Different process resolutions for Resolume!
Like 800x450 (16:9 !) 800x300 and even 800x267 (3 times 4:3).

Thats probably an even better solution than the one i describbed above. This way not only the flash renderer but Resolumes itself would stop rendering unused areas.

Hi mfo,
you can use any process and output resolution you want if you modify the 'screensetup.xml' document in the resolume/settings folder.
Some videocards have troubles with some custom resolutions, when resolume starts all available resolutions are queried and put in the list. So we know for sure those resolution work. But you are free to use any resolution you want if you modify the .xml file.

Cheers
Edwin

Unfortunately that did not work as expected, Edwin.
Last night i did several tests and i really couldn't figure out what's happening.
That's why i post the following screenshots of the testing results:

Process resolution: 800x267; Output: 800x600; Clip: 800x600
(No, the process resolution was really 800x267, NOT 267x800):
Image

Process resolution: 800x267; Output: 800x267; Flashmovie: 800x600
Image

Process and output the same like before, but Flashmovie in: 800x267
Image

I thought, well, maybe the Process Resolution is mixed up, needs to be inverted, so i tried:
Process resolution: 267x800; Output: 800x267; Flashmovie: 800x600
Image

Process and output the same like before, but Flashmovie in: 800x267
Image

I don't understand the results. But i see, that i don't get the result wanted: Resolume rendering only 800x267 and displaying it in 800x267 (or maybe stretch it to 800x600 - i could correct that on a second comp).

And just in case someone asks himself why i'm so anxious about this feature - here is a example application:

Panorma Projections!

On one Resolume machine you create your special panorama pictures in 800x267 (no cutting, no puzzeling, simply ONE live-created videocollage!!). Then send it to the second computer via VidNet and a Gigabit LAN. There you split it with Pete's PanSpinAndZoom FFplugin to the three layers and distribute it to three projectors. Voila!

(Won't that be a great feature for Resolume, Edwin, Bart ?)
