Receiving a BPM signal from a standard DJ Mixer

Post by Crowny »

Just a question about using the BPM function with a standard DJ Mixer line out.
I want to be able take a line out from a Dj mixer and run it into my labtop somehow to work with Resolumes BPM clock. Is there anything out there in Midi world or the audio world that will take a line out signal from a DJ mixer and send a BPM signal that Resolume can recognise?
I've worked with Ableton and had no problems but would love it if I could just plug in to any mixer at a whatever club and be able to sync up my visuals.
Anyone got any ideas?

the only solutions i know of are hardware based...

you can check out expensive dj mixers like the allen & heath series with bpm counter with midi clock out

http://www.xone.co.uk/3d.htm

or the pioneer effect machines efx 500 and efx 1000
http://www.pioneerprodj.com/

there is another solution but i dont have the link now..

if have been looking for a software solution and have found none... it would be great if someone found something usefull and cheaper

The Pioneer unit looks like a winner. Even the Tap function might be a better solution to the in built function in Resolume. Can you assign midi functions to the Jog Dial - say for example the Playhead in Resolume?

this mixer also does the job

this is not yet out, but should be a cheaper solution

the same company used to have the voyager 1 which they seem to have discontinued.. here is a link were you can still see it, and some stores might have it in stock

for the pioneer i dont think you can asign anything to its knobs, buttons, etc... i will check it out in november because a friend has it and is giving it to me to play for a couple of days.. i will keep you posted..

if you find a software based version to do this, let me know.. i am really interested.. i dont want to take so many things with me to gigs..
