FFT from winamp

Post by Chriseatsacrisp »

Hi there,

Complete resolume novice here, so sorry if I'm being a bit slow or have this in the wrong place, but am I right in thinking that you can set the external fft input to allow effect parameter syncing from audio played in something like winamp on the same pc thats running resolume ?

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick ?

I noticed this post for resolume 2 http://www.gearwire.com/resolumeaudio.html

"Under Audio FFT, make sure your internal sound card driver is selected. Now, open Winamp, iTunes, or another media player and bring up a track"

Which made me think you could but I've been trying to set this up for ages with no luck. Running Win 7 with the on board Realtek sound from my LANPARTY JR 790GX-M3H5, when I go to audio preferences all I get to select from is "default audio capture driver" and "Realtek digital input", using the default and playing anything in winamp gives me no input at all, I've tried installing new drivers and playing different audio formats, I've also wacked the volume right up on Wimamp and maxed the gain in resolume but nothing seems to work.

Any help to get me running would be much appreciated. I'm sure I'm probably just missing something really basic and rubbish.

Thanks again :)

Hey Chris

You're not doing anything wrong, the thing is that R3 only supports FFT for *external* audio inputs, such as your microphone or line-in, or audio playing within the composition.

That said, there are ways to route the audio playing on your machine in to Resolume, for instance the one found in this thread by our resident tech wizard Tschoepler.

I hope that answers your question!

i'm using a analog work around :

audio from my pro audio card goes into my hifi amplifier, and on my amplifier i have those rca audio outputs used to output audio to recording machines , tape or other,
i take this output and plug it into my mother board audio input, then i can select line input in Avenue and send to fft anything i can hear on my hifi system :)

hope this is explainded correctly :?

Not 100% true ;) . There's always something called "stereo mix". So in case you just need the audio from Winamp and there is nothing else playing (e.g. system notifications, mic, etc.) you can just tell Resolume to listen on that input. Oh and if you are on a Mac there is this free App called "Soundflower" from Cycling.
Meanwhile I found Virtual Audio Cable to be a very clever tool for Windows. Although it does cost some bugs.

Ah guys, thanks for getting back to me so soon, really helpful :) The option to enable stereo mix on my on board realtek card was hidden away under a right click menu on the sounds/recording menu. Up and running and loving every minute of it, you guys are the best :)
