HELP! Video Input - MacBookPro

Post by trabbahabba »

Appreciate any help that you can provide.

I have a MacBookPro, late 2011 model with 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6770M, 16gb ram.

Ports are two USB 2.0, One Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay, One Firewire 800.

Here is my issue:

I am running Resolume Arena with advanced output for mapping to four surfaces.
I will be connecting 3 Sony EX3s to Panasonic HD switcher.

I need to get the HD switcher into Resolume - so I have a blackmagic intensity extreme to connect via Thunderbolt. That part is easy.

Here is the rub, since I am using the Thunderbolt port for input, I now have no means for output...

So, is there a recommended Firewire or USB capture device? Is there a thunderbolt device that will allow me to still output? I have looked at the Matrox MX02, which has daisy chaining but I am not sure that I can daisy chain to a display port adapter.

If this helps:

3 cams to switcher->
Switcher to "some capture device"->
Capture device loaded to resolume->
Resolume advance output mapping to projection

First date of the show I am doing is April 13th, so I need to figure this out fast! Any help you can provide is appreciated!

I may have resolved my own issue. I decided to pickup the AJA io XT Thunderbolt. Since it has 2 thunderbolt ports I should be able to attach a display port adapter to the second port and feed that to projection using the internal video card. (fingers crossed!)

this is where the expresscard 34 slot on the 17" MacBook Pro really comes in handy..
