Resolume running in "slow motion"?

Post by ironspider »

Greetings all,

I'm having a bit of a strange problem. I've installed the demo of resolume on my work machine and I was playing around with it a bit as I followed the manual. At some point, the program started running *really* slow. I exited, rebooted, and the same thing continues to happen. For example, when I launch Resolume there is that voice that says "Resolume" as a sort of demo "watermark". When the problem happened and I relaunched it was saying it like in slow motion (like how you'd say it if you were imitating someone talking in slow motion). Audio from the demo clips was also doing this. I just attributed it to a crappy video card or something and didn't think much of it.

But now I'm at my home computer (a beast machine with 16GB or RAM, GTX770, i7 3.5GHz) and, after about a day, it is now doing the same thing! Even after rebooting and then reloading the "example.avc" file it still does it.

Looking at the main screen when I open the program or do a Composition > New, the BPM number is 120 but the four green circles going around in the box are moving SUPER slow. This is with zero clips loaded into any deck.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this or experienced it? Any thoughts on what could be causing it?

This may not be the same for you but I had (have) problems with BPM sync running slow which can only be fixed by deleting the config.xml in the Resolume preferences directory. I find this happens when I'm fiddling around with different versions which might explain why the program is choking on this file. It'd be interesting to see if it's the same for you.

change, the audio buffer size in preferences.
start a clip with audio, and try different sizes until smooth playback
Software developer, Sound Engineer,
Control Your show with ”Enter” - multiple Resolume servers at once - SMPTE/MTC column launch

Hey Sadler, I'm on a PC and it doesn't have that file I don't think.

Ravensc, I increased the buffer size and that DID smooth playback! I wonder why this is though? I mean the thing was running fine for a couple of days and then just started doing that slow motion thing. I don't feel like I changed anything on my machine.

I guess another question for when I eventually put the real version on my laptop is does the audio config (like buffer size) affect anything related to video playing back smoothly? I will only be running visuals for another DJ.

Glad you found the solution to your problem but another thing you want to look at when you compositions start going slow for no reason is the composition overall speed.

You can reset the 100% by right clicking on the area.

It happened to me on a show a while back. I bumped it by accident and all my movies started playing slow. Since I didn't know about this slider, I had to go back and adjust the speed of every clip in my deck which was a real pain!

Oaktown thank you for that. I don't know if that was part of the problem (since the buffer thing seemed to correct my issue) but I brought that composition speed slider up and when I drug it slower it did exactly the same issue I was complaining about. Another good thing to check!

Global speed control....never noticed that before!
but it does not give me numeric feedback as with other speed sliders.
