Hi guys,
I am a visual effects compositor with experience in After Effects and Cinema 4D. I was recently contacted for a projection mapping setup. Have had VJ gigs in the past but I am a noob in the Projection mapping world. Downloaded the demo of resolume 5 and was pretty happy with the workflow and mapping. Should mention that I am also an electronic music producer so I have an experience in setting up controllers etc etc...
The client is building an arena, with a flat surface, it just has some curves in the edges (see attachment)
I Was able to do the actual map itself easily through resume and dabble with it no problem.
My question now is.
What projectors are there in the market for projector mapping and pros and cons of each one?
Also what are we looking at best value for its cost?
Since its going to be a live stage arena there will be a DMX light setup involved as well,
i'm guessing the projector itself would need to be in very high Lumens, to project even in lighted situations.
Also, What are the best practices for the material of the surface it self, some kind of fabric? paint?
Thanks,
Projectors
Re: Projectors
There's a projector for every application and budget. Can you give us some more details such as size of the projection surface, projection distance, ambient light levels and room size?
I personally prefer a non-opaque surfaces as it reflects the light instead of absorbing or passing through it.

Re: Projectors
Sure thing projection will be affected by all stage lighting.
Indirect lights will affect, colorize and/or diminish the projection. Direct lights to the projection surface can even make projection "invisible". Do not forget about smoke! Smoke, CO2 floating between the projector and the screen surface will also "erase" it.
I am used to work indoor in nightclubs with projections and I allways have such issues. Usually working with 10K or 15K ansi lumens projectors.
Working outdoors, in a big stage setup with moving lights, I´d go for two or three projectors, from 20K up to 30K.
Those are huge and heavy projectors. Course, not cheap.
