Multiple Mapping Machine Spec

Post by benholmes19 »

Evening All,

I have been asked to look at the required computer specification for a multi-use venue. They have just had a refit and have had multiple screens and projectors installed. The screens behind the bars are in 2 arrays of 3x21:9 LG Ultrawide displays and there are 2 1024x768 projectors next that they wan't edge blending.

The content displayed on them is mainly going to be images on rotation, short videos and at a later date potentially live capture.

They are a multi use venue so ideally I want the system to be as versatile as possible but within budget. The specification I have put together so far is below:

Intel Core i7-5820K
Asus X99-A
Crucial Balistix Sport 16Gb DDR4 2400MT/s RAM (2x8Gb)
1x NVIDIA GTX770 2GB
1x NVIDIA GTX770 4GB
Crucial 256Gb M550 M.2 Solid State Drive
XFX XXX850 Watt Semi Modular PSU
LG Blu-Ray Combo Drive
19" 4U Lockable Rackmount Case

My plan is to output the 3 screens behind the bar on the GTX770 4Gb and the 2 Projectors, Preview Monitor and additional 1080p output on the GTX770 2Gb. I have read that Resolume only supports one GPU is this still the case? Would I be better off getting a more powerful card to use as the primary GPU and a cheap second to for the additional outputs or going Triple and Double head to go on one card.

I have read through the forums and haven't come across anyone trying to run resolume in this way or on the X99 chipset so any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys :)

Why do you have different models of GPU's?

Same GPU's just different memory as the 4Gb card may be pushing more pixels than the 2Gb card. This is due to another output being used in the future if we go ahead and install a capture card.

So the card with the GUI is the card that is used, the other card doesn't offer any performance, it actually has a very small performance hit. You'd want to stick with the more powerful card for you GUI. Multiple cards have been working fairly well for me, but using a triplehead would probably be better. I have this feeling that you won't see any performance improvements between a 2GB or 4GB card if they are truly identical with clock speed.

Your motherboard chipset isn't going to do anything to Resolume. Also your not getting any extra performance going to a 6core chip from a 4. I'd stick with 4770K and save cash with better thread performance unless your rendering content on this machine, which the extra threads do matter.

If that's the case then surely I would be better off getting a more powerful Primary card like a GTX780 and something like a GTX750 as a secondary card just for the additional outputs. Although technically a Double Head and Triple head to go would be the best way I am then using all possible outputs and always like to try and build in a little redundancy to a system.

Also the cabinet this machine is housed in tends to get moved in and out from the wall for access to the back. We have put VGA CAT5 senders in there before and the PSU's have broken, cables become trapped and break so ideally I want there to be as little peripherals as possible. Also all 6 outputs are being fed through an ATEN HDMI Matrix then to HDMI over CAT6 distribution boxes. In theory it should work fine with a Matrox but without one to test it's a big gamble. I tested the setup using my old desktop (Q8300, NVidia 780SLi Chipset, 8800GT+9800GT) and that had no problems going through (even though Resolume was running at 8Fps).

Processor wise the machine will probably be used for transcoding DVX files before playback but will more than likely have more software put on it over time (the old lighting computer ended up running Karaoke one night) it also may end up controlling a BSS BLU100 unit and the ATEN unit and although they aren't intensive processes I would rather spend a little extra and have the power there.

Thanks for your help on this, is nice to have some confirmation. :)
