Slice Transform with overlapping slices

Post by kinotropy »

Hey Folks.

I have a complex LED panel deployment with 6 HD outputs routed to 6 pixel processors. So far we've been using one HD composition to drive the show. Venue has a main upstage screen, dj booth, other LED panels all over the place, etc. In the advanced output we obviously output map to 6 separate HD feeds, however our input map is derived from the composition (used for the main upstage screen) with a lot (like a LOT) of slice overlaps. This is great because comp level effects work across all slices.

The goal now is to add a layer for logos. We need to be able to resize, orient, and switch on/off the logo areas. So... slice transform right? Except now when I send the logo layer to slices -using the slice transform effect, they overlap and mish-mash on the composition output. Looks okay on the ancillary panels, but main screen looks like garbage. I tried to resolve this with slice routing to groups + layers, but this doesn't jive with slice transform obviously, and would commit me to a very complex effects setup across groups + layers (eg no composition effects).

So, the question is this; is there a way to use slice transform and maintain my single HD composition input map, etc. without removing the the overlapping slices (eg. UN-overlapping them) ? I'm imagining something like slice routing within the slice transform... or does the slice transform ALWAYS intrinsically send it's content to the composition output and I just have to remove my overlapping?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

so I watched the Live Stream multiple times now but cant seem to wrap my head around the masked cheat slices.
Maybe it is because I have a lot more overlapping going on but honestly I think Im the problem here :D
Hopefully you can help me out.

I have a show coming up with the following setup:

2 TVs (full HD) as "main" in front of the DJ
and
1 Projector (full HD) with 4 mapped slices, two on each side.

(The TVs could do 4k but I don't really want to make the composition bigger because I don't know how my 4070 will handle that :D, also my content is full HD at best...)

I have a 4k composition setup so i can fit both TVs side by side, centered in height.
And overlapping those I have the whole 4k divided into 4 columns.

My problem is the same as the original posters: I want to use the slice transform for logos etc. but get artifacts on all slices since they sample the same area.
I tried with the cheat slices but didn't get it to work so that I can address them separately. Wouldn't my masks of the slices be the same size as the slice rendering it useless?

My goal is to have a logo layer as well as different looks:
The TVs as a single wide image or as 2 separate images sampling the whole 4k (but mirrored and rotations to the middle)
And the mapped rectangles the same with one look as a single image sampling the whole 4k and also the 4 rectangles as their own screen.

If that's achievable.. how do I do it?
Maybe there is more informational content out there I could watch/read?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Stageflow has been my go-to for this type of mapping.
I usually have my base layers and then build on top, leaving my logo for the last look.
