Resolume Avenue 7.2.1 Crashes on Open in Mac OS 12.6 Monterey

Post by DaleReindeer »

I was just using the software yesterday I swear. Now the program won't open. It just crashes to this screen each launch saying "Avenue 7.2.1 Quit Unexpectedly" (see attached screenshot). Tried restarting and all that jazz of course.

Worth noting is that I just updated the Resolume Alley software - could that have caused this?

Any fixes?

About to head down the rabbit hole and see how to fix this...

Of course I tried removing all of the compositions and related files, then scrubbing and doing a fresh install.

In the attached image you can see that after a fresh installation the program still won't run even after these steps. What might be the cause?

Okay I think I figured it out.

Only after I uninstalled Alley, and then installed everything from scratch, again, did it work. However, once I went to update Alley to 7.13.x, then tried to open Avenue, it crashed.

If you are stuck at a live show this would be very scary. I guess it underscores having a .dmg of your last updated version ready to re-deploy AND having a backup computer AND not updating before a show - I digress.

See image of the update that break Avenue but for some reason not Alley itself....?

We're working on this. Seems to happen when different version Resolume apps are installed, so keep in mind to upgrade Resolume software together ;)

Hello,

Totally agree I just don't think there is a check-sum on the Alley updater so it will go over the limit.

Will be updating soon though just dusting off these old machines now that business is back open :)

It's not about a limit, it's about shared library files.
The last app you install will work but the older ones won't any more.

Right. And please correct the term but usually there is a "check sum" that will look for other dependencies and then green light or red light the install.

Seems like that could be a quick fix for this issue a la "If, this version, then, don't install" - yes?

Not really, the issue will appear on the previously installed version, no the new.
With your logic, new versions would fail to install.
