Gradient as color overlay

Post by rawdesigns »

I have black and white content in a group and use colorize as a full color effect but I was wondering if there is a way to add a gradient of multiple of colors that overlays on the black and white content I use?

Yes shure, that is definitely possible in the colorize effect. You can also choose pallets as a color Source.
It will split your footage in different gray values, depending on how many colors there are in the pallet and then it will replace those gray values with the colors of the pallet. The color on the left side will be replacing black and the color on the right side will replace white everything in between will replace the difference. gray values. I hope that helps.

thank you! i'm unable to put the colorized pallet in the group because my layers in there are bypassed so they are in each individual layer.

all the more control right... ;)

I like the magma gradiant presets with a hue rotate behind it. Especially nice if you changed the Hue on every layer....

instead of moving the pallet colorize effect to the layers is there a way to apply the gradient to the layers? the gradient is a source not effect though

How about tusing the B&W footage to mask the gradient source?

You sad that before, but what do you mean by that? if they are bypassed you won't see them right? so you cannot change color either... Can you maybe share a screenshot or something?

Video router can take image from bypased layers, and you could play that router in a masking layer.

But you can also just play the b&w clips in a masking layer directly.
