Suggestions for Audio

Post by DayVeeJay »

It'd be nice to see a feature to globally disable audio on all clips.

It'd also be pretty cool to be able to record audio from the soundcard input. This would allow me to select audio output in Windows mixer and have whatever source my heart desires into the mix :)

Hey DayVeeJay

Can you elaborate on what you mean by globally disable? Turn it off so you don't hear it? Or permanently remove all audio from all clips? Or something else entirely?

This has been requested a few times before, and we're aware of the demand for it. It will most likely become a feature in Res 4.

Global deactivation of sound (kill all the sound-processing and output and input) would boost the frame rate at least 10%. Many of us dont mind the sound at all and we disable it while converting clips ok, but it would be nice to unburden the entire app if needed. Thanks

Personally, I run all my clips through MPEG Streamclip to convert to DXV3 and in that process I remove all audio. Obviously everyone's needs are different. I personally never use audio on a clip unless it's strictly for playback purposes (not VJ'ing), like a theatre show install where they are just using Resolume as a playback device.

Anytime I'm going live at a show I use a direct line from FOH output as an input source and EQ FX to certain frequencies. But I have yet to ever use audio from a clip to do anything during a show as the playback head and BPM will vary from what's happening live. Therefore I remove all audio entirely from my clips to save on the processing power.

Just my 2 cents :)

Since 5.1.2, there is the option to strip the audio from clips. This also works with multiselect.

I'm curious to see where you got this figure from. Audio processing happens on the CPU, which is far from the bottleneck when it comes to framerate.

I used Joris's method for a few shows, but found myself doing this on every show on every file.
For myself, removing the audio in the conversion process ended up saving me time. But it's great to have the option to do this within Resolume as well.
