You had that bit of code lying around anyway. Throwing it away would be wasting it. So you slowly stick it in to the master, and before you know it, there is a glorious new feature in your software. You close your eyes and think of how happy everyone will be.

Then you're awakened by a loud noise. You open your eyes, and it turns out that your new code is actually causing bugs in places you did not expect and the forum is on fire! The hangover kicks in and the comedowns get worse every time. You fix the bug, and you repeat after yourself: 'I will not add features half way through, I will not add features halfway through, I will not add….'

Like any Jedi knows, the dark side is always tempting us. Our intentions are noble and we have nothing but good in mind, yet we stray from the path. But the dark side isn't stronger. It's quicker, easier, more seductive. But not stronger...

This update shows again that at the end of the trilogy, the light side always triumphs. We caught a lot of bugs, and we blew up the Death Star. We defeated Darth Midi Lag and toppled the evil Emperor Syphon Crash. We even freed Han Solo from the clutches of Jabba the VST Plugin Not Showing Up.

We're still not okay with kissing our sister though.

We rarely are as excited about an update as we are about this one. Resolume 4.1 comes guns blazing with new additions to the arsenal, and shows everyone there's a new sheriff in town. So strap on your boots and put on your cowboy hat, because here we go!



By popular demand we added masking and cropping to the Advanced Output of Arena.



Also you can now route layers directly to slices, saving composition real estate and generally making your life easier.



Syphon is now natively supported on MacOSX. No more mucking about with 3rd party plugins. Just enable it via the preferences and check them thumbnails!



You can drop the bass like Paris with the new AV example set by Dan Wise.



With the new Layer Router you can now create a clip that takes the input from any layer below. For instance you can take layer 1 and and display it again as layer 4 but perhaps smaller or with a different effect. This is also really handy to create picture in picture compositions. Because the world needs more picture in picture effects.



This is a long wish come true. Like, over 10 year wish come true. Ever since Composite Station, we wanted to have a Japanese version of Resolume, and now that dream has finally come true. Konichiwa, Resolume-san! Thanks to the Projection Mapping Association of Japan.

We're quite happy with the stability of Resolume 4.0.0. For most people Avenue and Arena are running rock solid. But there's always the odd bug here or there and this update (4.0.1) fixes a few annoyances. Just fixing bugs is no fun so we could not help ourselves and put a few tiny new features in. Just because we can.

The most handy feature ever is that you can now do calculations in all numeric fields. So if you want to make for instance a clip half the width you just type in: 640 / 2 and it will make the width 320 pixels. This is really handy in the advanced output screen if you need to move a slice 10 pixels, you just type + 10 after the position value and it will move. We just love it ;-)

In software development the seemingly simple things can take a lot of time to program, very rarely can we make a big improvement quickly and easily. But now we have one. If you have tried the Resolume 4 beta on the Mac then you will have noticed the interface is much faster. We're happy to bring this faster interface to good old Avenue 3. It was easy to fix once we found the problem and it does not jeopardy the stability at all.

While working on Resolume 4 we also found a way to make the video playback a bit smoother which could also be incorporated into this update. A lot of factors come into play for smooth video playback. The hard drive needs to be quick enough, the codec needs to be right (DXV obviously) but overall you should see video play a bit smoother, it's never 100% stutter free but this is an improvement for sure.

This update also fixes a registration issue on OS X Lion and a small problem with the DMX mapping not saving the master fader.

Resolume Arena 4 Media Server
Resolume 4 comes in 2 editions. Avenue is the VJ software you know and love with all these new features. Arena has all the features of Avenue plus features you'd expect from a media server, soft edging, screen warping, DMX input and SMPTE timecode input.

Pricing
The price of Avenue 4 will be the same as Avenue 3, 299 Euro. Resolume Arena 4 will be priced 699 Euro but is now presale available for just 499 Euro.

Upgrades
Upgrade from any Resolume version to Resolume Avenue 4 for 1 computer 4 is just 119 Euro. An upgrade from Avenue 3 to Arena 4 media server is a great deal, only 319 Euro.

Beta on September 19
A beta version of Resolume 4 will be available for all Resolume owners on Monday, September 19. Do you not own a license yet? We are really happy with the stability of Avenue ... except when playing Flash files. But 3.3.2 fixes this. We have a love hate relationship with Flash and it remains an untamable beast but at least it's not crashing Avenue anymore.

A few bugs concerning masks are fixed. Thanks to Helder Freitas you can now enjoy the Resolume interface in Portuguese and a few other bits and bops are fixed too.

There is a Dutch expression that says "Those who do not honor the small, are not worthy the big". So today we are releasing a small update for Avenue and a (not so small) update for the DXV codec.

Avenue 3.3.1 fixes a number of small bugs that have been annoying us for while and we're happy to iron those out. DXV 2.1.1 fixes quite a few compatibility issues when rendering video with various applications. It now works great with Adobe After Effects, Media Encoder, Sony Vegas, Ableton Live (yes, Live edits video too) and our personal favorite: Apple Motion!
